Effect of Cleartec® on Sedimentation behavior of activated sludge

Activated sludge
Activated sludge

Sludge sedimentation characteristic is vital for dimensioning and the performance of the secondary clarifier. Sludge settling characteristics are expressed with SVI or Sludge volume index (L/kgMLSS). The lower this value the better the settlement of flocs. For conventional activated sludge system, SVI value ranges from 120 – 150, however for activated sludge system plant with Cleartec®, our experiences show that SVI values is ranging between 80-100 l/kgMLSS. Due to the improved sludge settling performance wastewater treatment plants operated with Cleartec® require smaller secondary clarifiers in comparison to conventional activated sludge systems.
