10. Jäger football tournament
The tenth Jäger Group football tournament took place in Poland for the first time – in Gryfino on 18 July. Five teams took part, four from Germany and the host team, Jäger Polska.
The kickoff took place at 1400 hrs and when the sportsmen ran at the sports ground they were cheered on by around 300 enthusiastic spectators. The home team in its red and white strip, the Polish national colours, quite clearly had home advantage, especially as they regularly train together. The winners from the previous year, JATP Osterode, fought hard to defend their title, but this year the Jäger Holding Cup went to Hannover, to the Artemis Black Stars. The other places went to Jäger Polska (2nd place), JGK, JAT Osterode and the Artemis Red Devils.
Following the finale at 1800 hrs there was a joint barbecue for all the visiting teams, with fantastic food. The children had fun with a circus academy, where they could learn really good tricks, and they were able to test their skill by playing with fire engines from the Gryfino county fire service. Celebrations were held into the evening by big and small alike, and next day a tour of Jäger Polska was on the programme. At the farewell the cry was ‘do widzenia’, and the footballers swore revenge: See you again next year!
